This program prepares professional Midwife who can work with a multidisciplinary health team in order to meet the client’s health needs and to upgrade the quality of health care in various health settings. To give professional Midwifery care in all stages of life midwives need to have a humanistic approach and practical clinical knowledge combined with a good theoretical background.

This program is designed to prepare independent qualified professional Midwives who are empowered enough to meet the needs, demands of the Palestinian society, educate and develop students to equip them for a rapidly changing, creative technology-enable.

The ultimate goal of Midwifery is to assist individuals, families, and communities to achieve optimal health within the parameters of applicable social, cultural, and environmental systems. The professional midwife consults with other health professionals, forms independent clinical judgments, and makes autonomous decisions based on a systematic problem-solving approach. Students and faculty are committed to principles of shared responsibilities for continuous learning, self-assessment, and practice improvement.

Each Student is Expected to have Achieved the Following by Graduation:

  1. Utilize theories from Midwifery sciences and arts to develop a comprehensive and holistic approach to Midwifery care.
  2. Critique and apply research findings to provide quality health care, initiate change, and improve Midwifery practice.
  3. Utilize theories and principles of health care policy, organization and finance to manage fiscal, human, and physical resources.
  4. Critically and accurately assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate health experiences (including wellness and illness) of individuals, families, and communities.
  5. Apply knowledge of cultural diversity and global perspectives in delivering Midwifery health care.
  6. Utilize legal and ethical principles to guide decision-making in an advanced Midwifery practice role.
  7. Utilize communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate collaborative relationships with clients, their families and the health care team.
  8. Develop an ethical framework to guide one’s advanced Midwifery role and foster one’s leadership and continued growth within the Midwifery profession.
  9. Develop a competent, caring midwife who is able to provide flexible, consumer centered care in a variety of settings.
  10. Develop critical thinking.
  11. Develop a practitioner who is able to utilize relevant research to inform practice.
  12. Develop an accountable practitioner.
  13. Provide primary health care to healthy women from adolescence through post-menopause.
  14. Manage the care of essentially healthy women during pregnancy, labor and birth and the postpartum period.
  15. Monitor fetal growth and well being during the prenatal and in trapartal periods
  16. Assess the neonate’s adaptation to extra uterine life, and initiate resuscitative measures when appropriate.
  17. Perform comprehensive neonatal assessment, facilitate the newborn’s integration into the family, and provide guidance related to infant care.
  18. Manage collaboratively the Care of women with selected obstetrical, gynecologic and/or medical complications and make appropriate referrals (high risk pregnancy).
  19. Provide emergency care as appropriate.
  20. Apply leadership, management and teaching/learning theories to effect change within the health care delivery system for the better of patient service.
  21. Practice safely, competently and effectively.
  22. Flexible and adaptable in their approach to work with mother, child and their families.
  23. Qualified professional midwives as to meet the need of the local communities.
  24. Raise the standards of maternal and child health care by preparing independent qualified midwives who is able to function competently at the preventive and curative care level.
  • To earn a bachelor degree in Midwifery, a student must complete 146 credit hours. These include completion of University, College, Department compulsory and elective courses.
  • Spend a minimum of 4 years in the program.
  • Admission is for female students only.
  • Tawjihi 75% or more, scientific branch.
  • Satisfactory outcome of an interview evaluating background and suitability for a nursing specialty.
  • Proficient knowledge of english.

For Bridging:

  • Bridging applications are acceptedonly for Tawjihi with scientific branch only,  Tawjihi average, diploma certificate mark and comprehensive exam rate of 70% or above.

  • The Minimum Passing Mark for Each Course is 60%.
  • A Student Who Does Not Pass a Course (Achieved D- or Below) is Allowed to Repeat the Failed Course Up to Two Times.
  • Students are Allowed to Retake a Course to Raise their Grade Point Average (GPA).
