On October 17, 2024, the Medical Education, Professional Development, and Staff Appraisal Unit conducted a face-to-face training session on Psychological First Aid (PFA) at An-Najah National University, partnering with the International Medical Corps (IMC) from Jordan and the West Bank.

The training  was attended by 15 staff members at the Faculty of Medicine and Health sciences and emphasized key skills necessary for delivering mental health support during emergencies. The primary objectives of this training course were to understand the concept of Psychological First Aid, enhance awareness of mental health issues in Palestine, and foster psychological resilience. It aimed to strengthen participants' ability to effectively provide PFA while addressing and correcting common misconceptions about mental health and emergency responses. The curriculum also included recognizing the phases of psychological trauma and its associated symptoms, as well as applying the principles of Psychological First Aid to various demographics.

Ms. Noor Herbawi, a Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Specialist from the International Medical Corps-West Bank, facilitated the training. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Jordan and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology at An-Najah University. With over seven years of experience, she specializes in crisis management, trauma-focused therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and also possesses a diploma in Child Psychology and therapy for child sexual abuse.

This training reflects the medical education, professional development and staff appraisal unit's commitment to developing international and regional partnerships aimed at capacity building and professional development. It was collaboratively designed and planned with the Canada International Scientific Exchange Program (CISEPO), the International Medical Corps-Jordan, and the Institute for Global Health and Development at Queen Margaret University.
