Sixth-year medical students from the Faculty of Medicine at An-Najah National University organized a series of awareness activities on December 30 and 31, 2024, as part of the Community Medicine course, under the supervision of Dr. Souad Belkebir, Preventive medicine and Public health specialist. These activities targeted visitors of primary care centers under the Directorate of Health in Nablus, focusing on promoting health awareness and increasing disease prevention.

This initiative reflects the collaborative efforts between primary care centers of the Palestinian Ministry of Health and An-Najah National University. It highlights their shared commitment to training a generation of physicians who prioritize prevention and address health determinants. These efforts directly contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal three, which aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.

Raising Awareness about Seasonal Influenza
One of the student groups focused on educating visitors about seasonal influenza, providing comprehensive information on its symptoms and distinguishing it from other respiratory diseases. They emphasized the importance of influenza vaccination, particularly for high-risk groups such as the elderly, children, and individuals with chronic illnesses. Practical advice was shared on preventive behaviors, including regular handwashing, covering the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, and wearing medical face masks.

Screening and Awareness of the "Silent Killer"
In another activity titled "Hypertension: The Silent Killer," students worked to raise awareness about the dangers of hypertension, one of the most common diseases in Palestine, and the importance of early diagnosis and treatment. The activity included a practical component where participants had their blood pressure measured, with identified cases referred for immediate medical follow-up by Family Medicine Specialists.

These activities aim to enhance the culture of preventive health and increase awareness of chronic and seasonal diseases, contributing to reducing their spread and improving the quality of life for the Palestinian community. The initiatives also reflect An-Najah National University’s commitment to its leading role in serving the community and advancing the healthcare sector through applied education and innovation in public health.
