As part of the Nursing Community Health and Clinical Public Health course at An-Najah National University's Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, a group of fourth-year nursing students conducted a series of impactful health awareness sessions for students at Askar Basic Boys' School in the New Askar refugee camp, Nablus.
The topics were carefully chosen in collaboration with teachers and students, addressing key areas where students required enhanced knowledge and understanding. These sessions were led under the guidance of Dr. Shurooq Qadous and clinical instructor Murad Mahdawi, in partnership with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).
The educational activities included:
- Personal Hygiene: Focusing on essential hygiene practices such as handwashing, nail trimming, changing clothes, bathing, and brushing teeth. Students were instructed on proper handwashing techniques, followed by a practical session at the school sinks.
- First Aid: Covering critical first aid techniques for managing fainting, burns, nosebleeds, and wounds. Students took part in hands-on demonstrations, learning how to effectively respond to these emergencies.
- Physical Activity: Emphasizing the importance of daily exercise to boost concentration, energy levels, and overall well-being.
Additionally, in collaboration with St. John Eye Hospital, the students assisted in vision screenings for schoolchildren, helping to identify potential vision issues early.
At the conclusion of the program, the nursing team expressed their heartfelt thanks to the school principal and teachers for their warm hospitality and excellent coordination, which were vital in making the initiative a success. This effort underscores An-Najah University's commitment to promoting public health awareness and community engagement.
