An-Najah National University’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences hosted an orientation meeting for newly enrolled students in the Nursing and Midwifery Program for the 2024-2025 academic year. The session was led by Ms. Samah Ishtayeh, Head of the Adult Health Nursing Division, who warmly welcomed the Director of the Department of Nursing and Midwifery, Dr. Aidah Al-Kaissi, along with faculty and students, emphasizing the meeting’s role in providing a comprehensive overview of program curriculum, regulations, and expectations to guide the students toward a successful academic journey.
Dr. Al-Kaissi opened the session with a welcoming address, commending the students for their choice to join the field of Nursing and Midwifery—a career path characterized as a noble humanitarian mission requiring both dedication and ethical commitment. She underscored the importance of consistent study and continuous professional development in Nursing and Midwifery, highlighting that academic and professional excellence in these fields translates into delivering exceptional patient care.
Ms. Ishtayeh then discussed the academic structure of the Nursing program, emphasizing the importance of understanding course requirements, credit hours, and prerequisites. She noted that a clear grasp of these elements enables students to effectively organize their study schedules, ensuring timely course progression. She also stressed adherence to the study plan as essential for achieving both academic and professional competence.
Dr. Eman Al-Shawish, Head of the Pediatric Nursing, Maternity, and Midwifery Division, presented an in-depth overview of the Midwifery program, detailing its academic and practical requirements. Complementing this, Ms. Mahdia Al-Kony, a department faculty member, offered guidance on communication protocols with faculty and maximizing the benefits of office hours.
Mr. Mohammad Dwaikat, another faculty member, highlighted the value of CPR training provided by the An-Najah University Life Support Training Center, affirming its significance in building essential practical skills for students. Engineer Lama Yassin from the e-Learning Center then demonstrated the use of the Moodle platform, explaining how students can access their courses and monitor their academic progress.
Further, Ms. Aseel Alsayed, a research and teaching assistant, emphasized the importance of completing medical examinations as a prerequisite for practical training and advised students to prepare the official nursing and midwifery attire prior to the second semester.
Concluding the meeting, Ms. Ishtayeh outlined the process for assigning students to practical training locations, explaining that placements are based on students' primary residences. She assured students of a follow-up meeting in the second semester to address additional practical training details.
The session closed with an interactive Q&A, during which students’ inquiries were addressed. Dr. Al-Kaissi expressed her gratitude to the students and faculty for their participation, wishing them a fruitful and successful academic journey and warmly welcoming them into the An-Najah University Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences community.
