
A delegation from An-Najah National University recently visited the German universities of Cologne and Freiburg to strengthen existing collaborations between medical faculties and expand partnerships to include additional faculties and disciplines.
Led by Dr. Abdulsalam Khayyat, Vice President for Academic Affairs, the delegation included Dr. Faris Abu Shama, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences; Dr. Bilal Rahhal, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine; and Ms. Amal Burbar, representing the Office of the Vice President for International Development & External Affairs.
At the University of Cologne, the delegation was welcomed by Prof. Michaela Pelican, Rector’s Representative for International Affairs; Prof. Jens Klußmann, Vice-Dean for Strategy and Internationalization; and Dr. Kareem Zafir, Head of the University’s Office in Egypt. At the University of Freiburg, the delegation was received by Prof. Kerstin Krieglstein, University President, and Prof. Lutz Hein, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine.
Discussions focused on expanding academic and student exchange programs, supporting clinical training in rare medical specialties, and developing academic and research personnel in fields such as chronic diseases, pharmaceutical sciences, nursing, and dentistry. Both universities also agreed to establish long-term collaborative research groups and academic projects.
During their visit, the delegation toured specialized medical centers, including the Children’s Rehabilitation Center, Pediatric Cardiology Department, Anesthesia Laboratory, and Simulation Labs. They explored state-of-the-art medical technologies and advanced training programs designed to enhance students' clinical skills and competencies.
The delegation then continued to Basel, Switzerland, to strengthen its longstanding collaboration with the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute. There, they met with Prof. Nicole Probst-Hensch, Head of the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, to discuss joint research initiatives focusing on chronic diseases and public health.
Dr. Khayyat emphasized the importance of fostering exchange opportunities for students and showcasing An-Najah National University's achievements, particularly within its Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, to partner institutions in Germany and Switzerland.
This visit reflects An-Najah National University's commitment to enhancing international partnerships, advancing medical education and research, and contributing to sustainable development, reinforcing its position as a leading global academic institution.
