A research team from the Faculty of Medicine and Allied Medical Sciences at An-Najah National University, consisting of students: Sanaa Abu Bakr, Shahd Samaaneh, and Qutaiba Saeedi, has published a scientific paper derived from their graduation project. The paper is titled:

“Prevalence and impact of dry eye disease on work productivity among indoor and outdoor workers in Palestine: a cross-sectional study”

and was supervised by Dr. Hamza Abu Alhassan and Dr. Jamal Qaddumi.

The study was published in the prestigious peer-reviewed journal BMC Public Health, which has an Impact Factor of 3.5 and is ranked in Quartile 1 (Q1) globally. The journal is indexed in major academic databases including PubMed and Scopus.

The research explores the prevalence of dry eye disease among workers in Palestine, revealing that over 60% of workers are affected. The condition was found to be more common among outdoor workers compared to those working indoors, significantly impacting daily tasks and overall productivity at all levels of disease severity.

This achievement reflects the University’s commitment to advancing scientific research among its students and faculty, supporting the production of applied research with tangible societal impact. It also highlights the University’s dedication to addressing local health challenges through evidence-based solutions.

Publishing this research in one of the world’s leading journals is a testament to the University’s ongoing efforts to foster a stimulating academic and research environment, and to prepare a new generation of young researchers capable of contributing meaningfully to the global scientific community.
