On 17 December 2025 (from 5:00 to 8:00 pm), the Medical Education, Continuous Professional Development, and Appraisal Unit at the Faculty of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences, An-Najah National University, hosted via Zoom the assessment team from Cardiff University for an interactive session focusing on modern assessment strategies in medical education. Dr Thanasi and his team delivered a specialized presentation on the development and implementation of advanced clinical assessments.
The meeting brought together assessment experts from Cardiff University, An-Najah National University, and Al-Azhar University to exchange expertise and best practices in Integrated Structured Clinical Examinations (ISCEs). The Cardiff team shared their experience in the design, implementation, and quality assurance of these examinations, highlighting the differences between OSCEs and ISCEs and explaining how integrated assessments combine multiple specialties and clinical scenarios to better reflect real-world medical practice.
Key topics discussed included examination blueprinting, examiner selection and training, the use of real and simulated patients, digital marking using tablets, and standard setting using the Borderline Regression Method. The session concluded with agreement on next steps for technical support, resource sharing, and strengthening future collaboration, including plans to deliver a specialized workshop on the use of artificial intelligence in medical assessments.
