A research team from the Neuroscience Lab at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at An-Najah National University, headed by Dr. Mohammad Qneibi, Lab Founder and Director in cooperation with his research team, won first place in the Arab American University Award for Excellence in Scientific Research for the year 2022.

The research team included Dr. Nidal Jaradat, Dr. Muhammad Hawash and Ms. Shorouq Sobh from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, and Prof. Othman Hamid from the Department of Chemistry at the University.

An-Najah researchers won the award for their research article titled “The AMPA receptor biophysical gating properties and binding site: Focus on novel curcumin-based diazepines as non-competitive antagonists”, which was published in in one of the most respected Journals: Bioorganic Chemistry under Drug Discovery category (IF>5, Q1) in the USA.

The newly published research is the first study to assess novel curcumin derivatives and their effect on the gating biophysical properties and inhibitory role on glutamate AMPA receptors (AMPARs).
