Counselling and Mental Health Center

An-Najah National University provides comprehensive mental health support services for both students and staff through its Counselling and Mental Health Center, operated by the Department of Psychology and Psychological Counseling at the College of Economics and Social Sciences.

The Center is staffed with specialists in psychology and sociology and serves as a dedicated hub for psychological wellbeing, offering preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic support. Its mission is to protect individuals from the risks of developing psychological and behavioral disorders and to provide timely interventions when needed.

Scope of Services

  • For Students: Individual and group counselling sessions, stress and anxiety management, support for academic and personal challenges, and referrals when specialized treatment is required.
  • For Staff: Tailored counselling and workshops focusing on stress management, workplace wellbeing, and work–life balance.

Our Specialized Team

The strength of the Counselling and Mental Health Center lies in its multidisciplinary academic and professional expertise. The Center benefits from staff members whose backgrounds span counselling psychology, clinical psychology, developmental psychology, mental health, psychotherapy, rehabilitation, art therapy, public health, and psychosocial intervention, enabling the University to offer support that is evidence-based, diverse, and responsive to different needs.

Dr. Shadi Abualkibash – Assistant Professor in psychology, with a PhD in developmental and health psychology and a master’s degree in counseling psychology. His profile highlights experience in developmental research, psychological resilience, traumatic experiences among Palestinian students, and supervision in the Department of Psychology.

Prof. Fayez Mahamid – Academic specialist in psychological counseling, with a doctoral degree in counseling psychology. His profile reflects extensive work in mental health, group therapy, trauma intervention, psychosocial rehabilitation, and supervision of projects in these areas.

Dr. Fakher Khalili – Assistant Professor and Head of the Psychology and Counseling Department, with a PhD in clinical psychology. His academic leadership and specialization strengthen the Center’s capacity in clinical and counselling support.

Dr. Filasteen Nazzal – Coordinator of the Psychology Program / Minor in Psychological Counseling and Social Work, with a PhD in psychology and a master’s degree in counseling psychology. Dr. Ahmad Hanani – Associate Professor with a PhD in psychological counseling. His profile notes expertise in psychotherapy, rehabilitation, art therapy, psychosocial programs, and mental health research, further enriching the Center’s capacity to support student and staff wellbeing.
