Graduation of health information management specialists equipped with the knowledge and skills to be successful managers of health care data and information in accordance with the foundations and international quality standards.
The mission of the Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management (HIM) program is to produce ethical healthcare professionals who are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to be successful managers of healthcare data and information.
General Objectives:
- To provide a quality educational program in HIM that will prepare all students as competent entry-level health information managers for employment in various health care facilities.
- To provide students with a life-long learning experience through research projects, service learning, and participation in the professional association in the local and national.
- To create new jobs within the health care sector and maintain sufficient enrollment through effective recruitment and retention activities.
- To provide adequate instructional and learning resources with a cutting-edge technology environment.
The specific objectives of the program are to:
- Develop and demonstrate the ability to respond to the changing informational needs of the patient, the providers of health care, researchers and educators.
- Develop and demonstrate awareness of the technologies and equipment affecting information storage and retrieval and to develop the ability to utilize these resources appropriately.
- Function as a member of the health team by development and acceptance of his/her responsibilities in the total health care of the patient.
- Develop and demonstrate the ability to communicate with ease in a group setting in both the leadership and supportive roles and to communicate effectively in written form.
- Develop and demonstrate an understanding of the history and evolution of health information management with particular emphasis on current and future developments in the profession.
- Develop and demonstrate an understanding of the current scope and responsibilities of health information management and its relationship to other professions.
- Develop an awareness of the need for continued professional education and growth.
- Develop an interest in the promotion of health information management as a career and in the encouragement of potential candidates toward this goal.

- The minimum passing mark for each course is 60%.
- A student who does not pass a course (achieved D- or below) is allowed to repeat the failed course up to two times.
- Students are allowed to retake a course to raise their grade point average (GPA).
