Dr. Ithar Beshtawi, who is Head of the Optometry Department at An-Najah recently participated in the third World Congress of Optometry.
She also attended the Academy meeting which were co-hosted by the World Council of Optometry (WCO) and the American Academy of Optometry (Academy) in Orlando, Florida over the period of October 23-27, 2019.
Dr. Beshtawi was the only Palestinian woman to participate in the event which included lectures and workshops, and several social events featuring international optometry.
Dr. Beshtawi gave a presentation on contact lenses, and presented two research papers conducted by An-Najah's Optometry Department. She also met with optometrists from different international universities to discuss possible means of mutual cooperation with An-Najah.
The WCO’s mission is to facilitate the development of optometry around the world. Also to support optometrists in promoting eye health and vision care as a human right through advocacy, education, policy development and humanitarian outreach.
