The Department of Nursing and Midwifery at An-Najah National University's Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, in collaboration with Labtech Supply Company and Acacia Medical Company, successfully organized its highly anticipated annual conference titled "Technology in Nursing Education." The event took place on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at the University's New Campus.
Under the esteemed patronage of Prof. Abdel Nasser Zaid, President of An-Najah National University, the conference was held to commemorate the International Day of the Midwife and International Nurses. Distinguished guests, including Dr. Majdi Dwaikat, Vice President Assistant for Academic Affairs/Medical Specialties, Dr. Khalil Issa, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Dr. Aida Qaisi, Head of the Nursing and Midwifery Department, and Mr. Imad Zaki, Director of Nursing in Hospitals, were present alongside Mr. Ibrahim Al-Namoura, Head of the Nursing Syndicate in the West Bank, Mr. Ibrahim Deeb, Representative of Acacia Medical Company, Eng. Ashraf Elwan, Director of Labtech Supply Company, representatives from the Ministry of Health, hospital directors, health institution representatives, university staff, and numerous students.
Dr. Qaisi commenced the opening session with an inspiring speech, emphasizing the significance of innovation in nursing education. She highlighted the instrumental role of technological advancements in enhancing the educational process and its impact on reducing medical errors that jeopardize patient safety.
The conference themes encompassed virtual practical training, the implementation of technology in nursing education and advanced medical simulation, as well as the transformation of traditional educational environments to align with technological developments.
She further highlighted An-Najah National University's commitment to the development of the nursing profession in Palestine through the introduction of comprehensive academic programs tailored to meet the demands of modern medical and technological advancements. These programs offer Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D. degrees and incorporate active learning environments through the utilization of advanced and interactive simulation devices within the curricula.
Dr. Dwaikat extended his congratulations to nursing and midwifery students across the country on the occasion of the International Day of the Midwife and International Nurses. He emphasized the imperative of integrating technology into nursing education due to its significant impact on healthcare delivery in various areas. Dr. Dwaikat highlighted An-Najah National University's commitment to remaining at the forefront of technological advancements through the establishment of simulation centers like the An Najah University Life Support Training Center and the "Najah Virtual Augmented Reality" Center (NVAR). He also highlighted the integration of artificial intelligence in education and training at the University.
Dr. Issa delivered a keynote address, underscoring the integration of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and its pivotal role in uniting all health and medical disciplines under one umbrella. This integration promotes the formulation of health policies and harnesses the collective knowledge and expertise within the University to benefit the faculty, the country, and beyond. Dr. Issa also acknowledged the significance of An-Najah National University Hospital, the first of its kind in Palestine as a university and teaching hospital, and emphasized the close relationship between technology and the various specializations within the health sector.
The conference featured presentations by esteemed specialists and researchers, who shared their insights on several topics such as tonsillectomy in children, dialysis patients, nasogastric tubes, and the importance of simulation in nursing education.
In addition to the conference sessions, the students demonstrated their initiative and creativity by organizing an impressive exhibition. The exhibition showcased a series of informative posters, allowing students to present and share insights into their respective specializations within the field of nursing and midwifery.
As a gesture of appreciation, the sponsors of the conference, along with all the participating health institutions, were duly honored during a special recognition ceremony.
