In the presence of eminent international researchers, academics and doctors from Turkey, Jordan and Tunisia as well as Palestine, An-Najah National University's Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences organized An-Najah's 4th International Medical Sciences Conference titled: "Advances in Basic and Clinical Medicine".


The conference aimed at discussing the latest developments of health sciences through a group of research papers and strengthening the partnership between Palestine and the other countries in terms of academic and cultural cooperation.

The conference was attended by Professor Maher Natsheh, An-Najah President; Dr. Kamal Hijazi, An-Najah National University Hospital CEO; Naeem Sabra, representative of the Minister of Health; Dr. Shawqi Sabha, Head of Medical Association; Mrs. Mai Hijjawi, representative of the Governor of Nablus; Dr. Khalil Issa and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences as well as a large number of doctors and medicine students.

 

On the international level, the conference was attended by Prof. Vatan Karakaya, President of Kırşehır Ahi Evran University; Prof. Özkan Ünal from Sağlık Bilimleri University; Prof. Muhammet Güzel Kurtoglu, Dean of Faculty of Medicine at Bolu Abant Izzet Baysal University; Prof. Ilker Inanç Balkan from Istanbul Cerrahpaşa University; Prof. Salih Mollahaliloğlu from Yıldırım Beyazıt University; Prof. Amine Jemel, Chairman of Tunisian Society of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery; Prof. Dogan Unal, Previous Adviser of Turkish Ministry of Health; Mr. Zeki Yalçın, Jenin Industrial Zone Manager; Mr. Reha Ermumcu, representative of the Consulate General of Turkey-Jerusalem and Dr. Munir Zaqqa, electrophysiologist from Jordan.

The openning session was moderated by Dr. Mahmoud Mustafa, the conference chairperson.

The conference started with an opening speech by Professor Natsheh who talked in brief about An-Najah's centenary and how it offers 4000 graduates annually through its 90 MA programs and 70 graduate programs. He also focused on the important role of An-Najah's Faculty of Medicine and An-Najah Educational Hospital in serving the health sector in Palestine.

 

Dr. Sabra stated that the conference is a platform for expertise exchange in health sciences. He also said that the Ministry is working on creating a national health committee to develop health situation in Palestine focusing on comprehensive health insurance, family medicine and health referrals.

 

The conference also included speeches by Mrs. Hijjawi, Dr. Sabha, Dr. Hijazi and Dr. Issa.

In turn, the international keynote speakers expressed their happiness for being part of this event and stressed the importance of the cooperation with An-Najah National University.

 

The conference was over two days and included sessions on Cardiovascular, Basic Sciences, Internal Medicine, General and Subspecialty Surgery and other important topics.

 

The conference was concluded with a tour of the date's factory in Jericho and the Old City in Nablus and a visit to Jerusalem.
